    As a Champaign native, Coltrane Zerai-Che attended Champaign Central High School. From elementary through high school, Zerai-Che played the Oboe in concert bands, and she is a former thespian in musical theatre at Franklin Middle School, the Champaign Park District, the Urbana Park District, and the Champaign-Urbana Theatre Company. Coltrane has worked as a camp counselor with the Douglass Community Center for the past two years and she has tutored young children in literacy skills for the past two years as well. Zerai-Che is the former co-Editor-In-Chief of Central High School’s School Newspaper, “The Chronicle.” Currently, Zerai-Che is a student in the College of Media at UIUC. She is studying Media and Cinema Studies while pursing a double minor in Spanish and Informatics. Coltrane is the Assistant Director for the Illini Union Board’s Special Events Committee, the Vice President for Mariama, the Black Student Union for Busey-Evans residence hall, a Statistics 100 Grader, and a Les Mills BODYATTACK group fitness instructor. Zerai-Che earned a position on the College of Media Dean’s List her freshman year. Coltrane is also a James Scholar, the Physical and Mental Health Committee Chair of the Alpha Nu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorotity, Incorporated and a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society.
