About
My formal training is in Rhetoric and Composition; however, my intellectual, personal, and professional interests have migrated to the study of slavery and Reconstruction as I have worked for the last fifteen years or more on my paternal family history. I have been deeply interested both in changing senses of time and space in light of migrations (my family moved from Mississippi to Detroit) and of memory of slavery and Jim Crow. I am interested in knowing how the experience of migration and memory of past locations helps African Americans to arrive at “truth.” Ultimately, I would like to see slavery research and memory studies play a role in rhetoric and composition studies.
