Michelle is the Norman E. Alexander for Jewish Studies at Columbia University, as well as the Vice President/President Elect for the Association of Jewish Libraries. She is a co-director for Footprints: Jewish Books Through Time and Place (footprints.ccnmtl.columbia.edu), and edits a column in Judaica Librarianship on Digital Humanities and Jewish Studies. Projects
- Footprints: Jewish Books Through Time and Place (footprints.ctl.columbia.edu) attempts to track the movement of Jewish books from the inception of print through the end of the hand-press era. (2014-Present)
- Jewish Book Cultures in the Early Modern World: This scalar website project was created to support a course on the history of the Jews book. The class was remote due to the covid-19 pandemic, so we needed an alternative to seeing the books in situ. This site gathers images (both static and IIIF-based) to illustrate the history of the Jewish book in the early modern period. (2021)
