Crystal Eddins holds a dual PhD from Michigan State University in African American & African Studies and Sociology. Crystal’s general interests are focused on the role of collective consciousness, culture, and identity in micro-mobilizations in the African Diaspora. She specifically studies patterns of escape from enslavement before the Haitian Revolution using digitally archived advertisements for runaways. She uses this data set to examine the relationships between race/ethnicity and gender, and social ties, the length of escape and other self-assertive behaviors.
