    Historian, educator, and digital media producer. Interested in the historic roots of contemporary inequality. Creator of new media work, including the Calderwood U.S. History Series with WGBH Boston for PBS Learning Media, Louisiana’s contribution to the States of Incarceration national public history project, and Vera Institute of Justice videos for the New Orleans tricentennial. Named the National Council for the Social Studies’ (NCSS) Teacher of the Year for the United States, and awarded the Derek Bok Center Distinction for undergraduate teaching at Harvard University. Research, multimeida projects, and writing have been supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, American Council of Learned Societies, Charles Warren Center for American History, and Hutchins Center for African & African American Research. At work on first book, a history of incarceration and American empire, under contract with The New Press.
