About
I am a scholar of modern art and a historian of photography. My research interests include French Symbolism, artist’s books, transgender phenomena in art, and depictions of the African diaspora in Europe. I am currently at work on a book project, tentatively entitled Savage Whiteness: Paul Gauguin and the Birth of Modernism.
I received my doctorate in art history and a certificate in women’s studies from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and my bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College. My research has been supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the CUNY Graduate Center, the NEA Foundation, and the Van Gogh Museum. Education
