Christiane Wagner (Germany) has been a visiting research professor at the University of São Paulo (USP) since 2019 and has developed research at the Contemporary Art Museum of the University of São Paulo (MAC USP) 2020-2021. In addition, she was a visiting research professor of aesthetics and science of communication at UNICAMP (Fellowship CAPES 2014–2018, qualification for a professorship, Habilitation, venia legendi). Both universities (USP and UNICAMP) are ranked as the best universities in Latin America. She began her higher education in Frankfurt am Main, then pursued her professional and academic career in São Paulo, maintaining a connection between Europe and the Americas. In 2014, she was awarded a doctoral degree in Germany in the science of art and aesthetics (Promotion recognized by the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art – Anabin). She has a Ph.D. in the science of art and aesthetics with highest honors from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (mention très honorable/summa cum laude), a Ph.D. in design and architecture (with highest honors), and a master’s degree in science of communication (with highest honors) from the University of São Paulo. Her dissertations for her USP master’s degree, USP design and architecture Ph.D., and Sorbonne aesthetics and science of art Ph.D. were each nominated for publications in book form by the respective examining boards. Upon her graduation, she attended the Academy of Visual Arts in Frankfurt, and later, in São Paulo, she majored in industrial design (bachelor’s degree with first-class honors, 2003) at the Fine Arts University Center. In Berlin, she was awarded the Art Campaign Award, Neumann & Müller, 2006. Since then, she has developed her professional activities across Europe, Latin America, and North America. Her research lines concentrate on cultural, media, and image studies, as well as the interface of architecture, film, art, design, digital media, global visual media concerning international politics, postcolonial aesthetics, environmental, and urbanization issues.

She has given lectures and participated in panel discussions as a visiting professor, an invited lecturer, or a researcher at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, Germany; ACTE Institute, Æsthetica – Art et Philosophy, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne; Universität Wien; School of Communication and Arts – University of São Paulo (USP); Institute of Arts – UNICAMP; Contemporary Art Museum of the University of São Paulo (MAC USP); The City University of New York (CUNY); Institut für Kunstgeschichte, FAU-Friedrich Alexander Universität, Erlangen-Nürnberg; New York City College of Technology (City Tech); University of Hertfordshire, London, and in many international conferences.

Christiane Wagner is the editor-in-chief, founder, and creative director of Art Style, Art & Culture International Magazine and a member of the College Art Association of America in New York. Since 2018, she has been editor of the ISA-RC57, an international research committee on visual studies and an executive board member of the ISA-RC14, also an international research committee on communication, knowledge and culture (both research committees pertain to the ISA, International Sociological Association. The ISA is a member of the International Science Council and enjoys a status of the Non- Governmental Organization in formal associate relations with UNESCO and special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations).

Prof. Dr. Christiane Wagner is a scientific advisor of the São Paulo Research Foundation FAPESP in cooperation agreements with national and international research funding agencies, including the UK Research Councils, the Agence Nationale de Recherche (ANR) in France, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) in Germany, and the European Commission. She is an associate editor of the culture magazine Revista Cultura e Extensão USP of the University of São Paulo. Professor Wagner was also invited to participate in the annual QS Global Academic Survey 2020 and 2021, the World University Rankings of Quacquarelli Symonds Intelligence Unit (QSIU). She is also active in the German, French, European, and International Aesthetics Associations, and often participates in scientific advisory boards for master’s degrees, doctorates, and scientific committees for research projects. Also, she is certificated for peer review training and mentoring in the social sciences, arts and humanities by Web of Science Academy, Clarivate. She is a reviewer for many architecture, design, arts, media studies, and aesthetics journals.
