    Abstract:
Community engagement is an essential competency in holistic teaching. As much as it is a specific domain articulated with the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers, there remains to be a gap in terms of fully measuring how well teachers fair in this aspect. As such, this study proposes a scale instrument for teacher’s own self-assessment on how well they demonstrate the different components of community engagement within their classrooms and their school communities. The pilot study data is analyzed using descriptive statistics and factor analysis to see how well respondents rate themselves against action statements, check the reliability of the instrument, examine the underlying factors that measure perceptions on teacher’s community engagement, and identify recommendations for further improvement. Given these, results showed that a scale for teacher’s self-assessment on community engagement should include five factors: (1) technical skills, (2) professionalism, (3) social awareness, (4) resource generation, and (5) pedagogical skills.
