- Abstract:
- In this presentation, I look at the Archives of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum and beyond. We will look at networked digital Holocaust archives and participatory practices such as crowdsourcing and the potentials and limitations of the digital for the future of Holocaust research. Digitizing archival collections allows researchers and survivors to access the materials across different archives and locations, and provides opportunities to link and connect historical data.
- Notes:
- I had the good fortune to work with Dr. Bozena Karwoska, Dr. Anja Nowak and the students in the Go Global Witnessing Auschwitz seminar at The University of British Columbia (UBC). In 2021, the seminar moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a valuable experience to see and hear firsthand the work of the students, archivists, researchers, and museum staff in lectures from the Departments of Research, publications, Art Collections, Archives, Preservation, and Exhibitions.
