    Abstract:
This research paper focuses on the adoption laws of India and how they fall short on equally granting adoption to any parent who is not married. It brings out the distinction in the treatment of same sex couples, live in couples and single mothers. This paper closely examines the adoption law and its evolution over the years and brings out a nuanced approach to treatment of non-normative parents. It discusses the constitutionality of these differences and possible implications in the light of Supriyo v. Union of India.
