    Abstract:
The foster care system is a western concept that is still at its grassroots in India. It provides a quick solution to abandoned, orphaned kids without troubling parents with the legal technicalities of inheritance and adoption. The Indian government has launched various schemes in order to strengthen and provide foster care to needy children in India however even in the 21st century, there are a lot of challenges to be overcome. This article aims to analyze and shed light on the legal provisions related to foster care in India as well as highlight the structural differences it makes from adoption while comparing the current foster care provisions in India with those the western country ones. This article also aims to shed light on why there is a very small number of foster kids/parents and the challenges of the foster care system.
