- Abstract:
- In libraries without an accessibility specialist on staff, it can feel daunting to even begin work on creating accessible (or remediating inaccessible) digital content. This presentation will discuss how seeding and growing a culture of accessibility--in institutions of all sizes--can be an effective strategy for sustainably undertaking this critical work. My experiences include working within a consortial community of practice targeted at growing participant competencies and developing resources for adoption across member libraries. At my own library, I have helped develop an accessibility-first mindset through coordinating ongoing no-cost staff trainings, creating policy documentation, and building relationships with our campus accessibility leaders. Presented as part of panel: Centering Digital Accessibility: Projects at Academic and Art & Design School Libraries.
