- Abstract:
- Roundtable: Enlightenment in the Dutch and Swiss City Republics
- Notes:
- The paper covers a special bond linking the two countries, namely: that for more than two hundred years German Swiss language politics were under the spell of the question: ‘Dutchification’ ['Hollandisierung'], Yes or No? That is, the Dutch language situation and the long-term language politics of the Netherlands vis-à-vis the neighboring German served as the crucial reference point, positively or negatively referred to, for German Swiss language culture.
