- Abstract:
- These are materials in connection with the paper "The effects of captioning videos used for foreign language listening activities," which appeared in the journal "Language Learning & Technology" in 2010. The materials and article are by Winke, Gass, and Sydorenko. We, the authors, uploaded these materials in August 2021 to Humanities Commons after being asked for copies of the materials from the 2010 research project. We combed through our computer files and found these. They are not all of the materials, as more than 10 years have passed since the close of the project, but these are those that we found and are able to share. The materials include (a) the background questionnaire, (b) the consent form for extra credit, (c) the consent form for in-class work, (d) a copy of the first part of a scanned test paper (readers can see the general format of the test papers), (e) our debriefing form, (f) the interview protocol, and (g), a copy of the vocabulary and comprehension test, translated into English for the IRB application (the tests in the study were provided in the languages the students were learning). The APA citation for the 2010 paper is this: Winke, P., Gass, S., & Sydorenko, T. (2010). The effects of captioning videos used for foreign language listening activities. - Notes:
- The materials in this deposit were used to help us investigate the effects of captioning during video-based listening activities. Our research included second- and fourth-year learners of Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, and Russian. The materials were used in this study: Winke, P., Gass, S., & Sydorenko, T. (2010).
