- Abstract:
- This research focuses on a nuanced and contextual approach model to form a new theology of suffering and disability, along with three "responses" of action for churches to implement. In this, we call for a "spirit of reformation" to take place within the American Church by first forming a new “contextual theology of suffering and disability” within their congregations and faith communities. This model is based on a scriptural foundation and challenges the American church to evaluate their own theological presuppositions while listening to the needs and concerns of persons with various disabilities. Finally, this contextual theology of suffering and disability will posit a new way forward for the American Church to become faith communities in which persons with disabilities not only take part in, but flourish as well.
