- Abstract:
- Curatorial note from Digital Pedagogy in the Humanities: This one-credit ePortfolio course is available to undergraduate students at the University of Virginia. Initially taught as a free-standing elective course, ELA 1559: Collect, Select, and Reflect is now part of a suite of “Engaging the Liberal Arts” electives students can take as part of their undergraduate experience. Distinctive features of this course include the focus on portfolio-makingness as students create three separate portfolios—“a learning ePortfolio (created for personal educational and reflective purposes), a presentational ePortfolio (targeting audiences such as prospective employers, instructors, peers, or others), and an exploratory ePortfolio (based on any creative topic of interest to you).” Students are advised to think capaciously in identifying potential artifacts and juxtapositionally in arranging them. Working with the instructor, students articulate criteria for assessing each portfolio; sample criteria include selection of artifacts, reflection, layout and readability, and navigation. As a culminating activity, students present their ePortfolios to a face-to-face audience.
