    Abstract:
    Presentation in Japanese on the big correspondence education industry in Japan as online education started to gradually make inroads in higher education. It discusses instructional design, distance education, Web-based education and training, online courses in university correspondence education divisions, learning management systems, lifelong education, ICT empowerment, virtual universities, and cultural receptivity to online education.     Notes:
    At the time, the author was the instructional designer for a World Bank project, a pioneer in using learning management systems such as the Japanese version of WebCT, and President of the World Association for Online Education, an academic NGO and one of the first global virtual organizations (1998-present).
