- Abstract:
- A gripping legend about the origin of the Pilgrimage of Shikoku seems to prove reincarnation. This five-minute podcast recounts the miracle story, then poses discussion questions that could, and have been, used educationally with groups to get at the underlying motive and purpose of the legend.
- Notes:
- The pilgrimage of Shikoku, a circumambulation of the island inspired by the career of the Buddhist saint Kukai, has spawned many legends as well as cultural artifacts. The author did in situ research around Shikoku and became a professor there, co-authoring guidebooks and publishing articles in Japanese and English (linked under Projects at the author's Profile).
