    Abstract:
A six-year pilot project at Amherst College to introduce sophomores and juniors to approaches in humanities and social-science research has encouraged librarians to stretch our ideal forms of teaching research dispositions. These small tutorials immerse students in a topic that intersects with the scholarly interests of a faculty mentor, with the option to continue their projects during an intensive summer of research. Librarians partner with each seminar—sometimes in a deeply embedded role. This overview of our experience covers planning and course development, structural changes, student outcomes, and questions and challenges we encountered in teaching and supporting students as they take on roles as original researchers.
