- Abstract:
- Small exhibition entitled “Livros de Coro do Século XVII” (“Seventeenth-Century Choirbooks”) prepared in the chapel of St Peter ad vincula, at Angra Cathedral. This consists of three printed books – Duarte Lobo’s Liber Missarum and Cantica Beata Virginis and Manuel Cardoso’s Cantica Beata Virginis – that were printed in Antwerp by Balthasarius Moretus at the Officina Plantiniana in 1607, 1621 and in Lisbon at Pedro Craesbeecks ‘ workshop in 1613 respectively. There are also several 19th-century manuscripts featuring works by local composers such as Mateus Pereira de Lacerda and Pedro Machado de Alcântara and other Portuguese composers such as João José Baldi, that served as musical sources for the modern editions used in the three concerts that were recorded in the triple-CD “Música Sacra Portuguesa Século XIX – Arquivo Capitular da Sé de Angra”.
