About Sites

What are sites on Humanities Commons? Sites allow you to create your own Wordpress website. You can use your site for many purposes, ranging from a course site to a digital portfolio.

What is the difference between sites and groups? While the groups function is more suited for discussion and collaboration, sites allow for externally publishing and sharing content to users beyond the Commons. Groups can also create their own sites to use as a public-facing space to share their work.

Who can create a site? Both individual Commons users and groups have the ability to create sites. You must create an account in order to create a site.

How many sites am I able to create? There is no limit on the number of sites you can create.

How can I use a Humanities Commons site? Sites can be used in many ways on Humanities Commons, including a blog, course site, digital portfolio, digital journal, event site, or any other form of digital project. The opportunities are endless!

Where do I go to create my site? To create your own site, choose “Sites” from the drop down menu under your name in the top right corner. Group sites can be created from the group’s page.

Where can I learn more about creating and designing a site? Our Commons Help & Support site includes information on how to get started.

What themes and plugins can I use on my site? The available theme and plugin options are available within the administrator area of your site. Some theme and plugin options on Humanities Commons are limited for security. If you would like us to consider adding an additional theme or plugin, contact us.

I have more questions about sites. Who can I contact? Email us at hello@hcommons.org with any additional questions.
